Janmashtami celebrates the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, by lighting
up temples and homes and nightlong singing of hymns in His praise. This

Kerala's most popular festival, Onam, is the harvest festival. Elephant
processions, flower arrangements, feasts and fireworks are an integral
part of this festival.

thrilling music. Sisters tie colorful threads on their brothers' wrists,
who in turn promise to protect them, in this festival known as Raksha
Bandhan.

dress in traditional costumes and jewelry and visit the Temple of Shiva or

(representing evil) are burnt to celebrate Ram's conquest of the demon.
Fireworks is an essential part of the celebrations.

his kingdom after 14 years of exile. Gifts and sweets are exchanged, new
